About Us

The #Focus5 project provides bespoke support to young people aged 15-18 across the South West, helping them into education, employment and training. The four main outcomes of the project include; understanding the skills employers look for, improving readiness for employment or training, increasing self-awareness and an understanding of individual strengths and identifying solutions to any potential barriers.

Who Can Benefit?

We are funded to support 500 young people in Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay including those with mental health issues, special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and care leavers. The project is aimed at helping the most socially isolated young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET. For those currently within education we look at the more vulnerable who are isolated from their educational environment such as home educated youngsters or those out of education on medical grounds.

Applicants should be unemployed or economically inactive and they must be able to display a desire to learn, engage with their key worker and empower themselves to make progress.

More information on exactly who can access the #Focus5 service can be found on our online referral page.

What Support is on Offer?

#Focus5 key workers get to know the young people and together they create a bespoke plan of activities to meet immediate and long term goals or aspirations.

This can be anything from opening a bank account, learning about financial independence, navigating public transport, creating a CV and applying for jobs, finding training opportunities, mentoring, support with returning to education or developing life skills. It also often involves opportunities to simply talk and build confidence over a coffee, or a walk in the beautiful countryside.

Support can be anything that helps young people towards education employment or training, as long as they show a commitment to engaging with the project.

We also have funding available to cover childcare costs for any young mums wishing to return to education or employment.
